On the concept of in-game guides
« on: November 29, 2014, 01:12:25 AM »
Firstly, I have to congratulate the team on their progress so far in making the game's base mechanics somewhat easier to grasp. There are, however, different aspects of the game that would still need a more in-depth tutorial or explanation. The concept of Rot, winning via killing the King, when to play certain cards, evade/stealth and a few other things are left vague and a bit of a mystery to players just starting out.

This game looks VERY much like a board game, similar to Smallworld. If that's the vibe that's being strived for, why not include an instruction manual in the game with pictures and such? There's a game guide option in the in-match options menu, but it's greyed out due to what I assume to be a lack of availability.

I don't really think this game needs a hand-holding, seeded card draw/AI movement tutorial, as that wouldn't fit too well.

On a sidenote, is there anyone who can help teach me the things I'm still having issues with? I'd be interesting in skyping and whatnot.

I had looked over the quick start guide, a lot of it was very useful in explaining the specifics of certain mechanics. It doesn't seem to go too much into rot, which is also part of the Kingslayer victory. It also doesn't really tackle the  evade concept, so that's why I posted what I did here.

I'll see if I can chat up the steam group as well, and I'll look into the videos and see if I can find out what I don't know. Thanks, 8bit. :3

Oh no you caught us! Haha currently the rot mechanic in the game is going to change so thats why we avoided it. Evade is also a bit buggy so we didnt want to put in any definite information before it was a bit more stable

Ah! Alright, that makes sense. Hopefully rot isn't too painful to play around with once it comes back with a vengeance. :3

We agree :) and thats why 8BitProxy and I have been working on a Unoffical Game Guide :) Which I know I keep talking about but its yet to see the light of day. Well good news is its almost done. 8BitProxy and I were just confirming which are the final bits that need to be filled out yesterday. I think this will help new players like yourself. In the mean time I hope youve been able to conect with SpectralWolf or one of the other players over Skype or simialr and have had all your questions answered :)
