discard cards
« on: September 10, 2016, 07:36:56 AM »
Just a thought which didn't seem to come up when I searched the forum but is there a way to discard cards without playing them. I'm fine with it costing AP or just 1gold per card but having to play each one esp if you don't need it gets old. For a strategy game you don't seem to have a lot of options.

finding  peril to burn them in is the official strategy to do this.  Being trapped with bad cards is something you learn to avoid with experience.

A lot of the stratergy for Armello is found in how you FILL your hand and, yes, as you suggest, how you empty it.
It is certainly possible to gum up your hand with card you can't quickly play, but this often is the result of CHOOSING to continue drawing cards that you currently lack the resources for, and often BUT NOT ALWAYS you work around this by bing a bit more picky in what you grab.

If your out of magic, but have gold, grab items... if you know you have magic but are cash poor, grab spells...
But what do you do when you are out of both? Well... you dive in a dungeon, or pick trickery (hoping you get a card that requires prestige instead of gold or magic,) or you plan 1 turn ahead knowing that night refills your magic. and day will yeild at least 1 gold (or more if you have towns.)

All that said, sometimes you are going to have to deliberately cull things from you hand... and there is a lot of tough choices to be made in what to cut and how... this may be the MOST strategic part of Armello.

You can choose to jump into Perils: there you will have to chose if you burn hards just to get matching symbols or maybe just shorten your odds of passing the test to burn cards you just don't want anymore.

You can pick a fight: Banes, Players... even kings guard or the King himself, give you a great way to burn up cards to get symbols to turn the tide of battle.

If you are the  Prestige leader you can hope for a declaration that lets you flush or swap your hand... but this is a long shot.

All in all, yeah, we have all felt, and continue to feel, the pinch of when your looking at a fist full of cards you just can't do anything with in Armello, but the more you play the more you realize that ending up in that dead end is often part of the puzzle of the game, and that a little foresight can often keep you from landing there, and a little out of the box thinking can often get you out!
