Sounds like LoG could help the issue with a few un-answered questions, the answers might have even been in the comment threads but they could just be speculation:
1: Why Exactly the DLC can't be DRM free? The Theory is that like the bandits, in order to ensure compatibility between DLC and non-DLC players, and to allow sharing of paid characters in "private multiplayer" an online license check is performed rather just the data just "not being there" for the non-dlc version.
2: What is in the future for DRM free version Steam won't get? Knowing what to expect to replace the loss of DLC characters and Dice skins will surely soften the blow. Maybe it's too early to make promises, but I think with enough caveats, or a rough time that details of the replacement features being announced, will help quench some torches.
